So Chase Elliot, at the ripe age of 20, will be on the pole when the Green flag drops at Daytona next weekend. Outstanding!!!
I think that the infusion of young men into the Cup series is one of the many things the sport needs to stay relevant and continue to grow. Men my age can relate to Jimmie, Junior, Kevin Harvick, and Matt Kenseth. Guys who are 20 see them as old men to whom they can’t relate. Chase Elliot, Chris Buesher, Ryan Blaney those are the drivers who will bring and keep young people interested in the sport. That’s what we need.
NASCAR and the team owners also smartened up and started sharing the money. That is really what this charter system comes down to. Finally teams are worth something and maybe that means in the not to distant future there will be more than a handful of cars that can win a race. This is another thing that will keep new fans interested in the sport. I’m a fan and am not going anywhere but who really wants to see the same cars win week in and week out. More teams that can win and not just be there to fill out a spot is a good, good thing.
Finally, how about that Daytona rising! I can’t wait to get to Daytona and see a race again. This is another step in the right direction. Making the fan experience great will keep people in the seats race after race.
Great job to NASCAR and Team owners. In my opinion things are headed in the right direction.
